Nando’s Music Exchange returned this year for its fifth year, bringing together 40 talented students aged between 18 - 25 from the UK, South Africa and Australia - helping them turn the heat up on their creative careers with mentorship and true collaboration.
Fancy getting involved? Download the exclusive Nando’s Music Exchange Sample Pack from this year’s workshop, featuring sounds from South Africa, Australia & the UK to use at home. We’ll be playing the best tracks live on Reprezent Radio, so if you think yours has what it takes, send us an email on musicexchange@nandos.co.uk with your masterpiece.
The aspiring musicians were mentored by three established global artists; UK rapper and MOBO award winner, Nadia Rose; South African vocalist, producer and founder of independent label ‘Albino Black’, Nonku Phiri; and Australian rapper and winner of the triple j Unearthed ‘Artist of the Year’, Kwame.
The well-known artists lent their expertise and guidance to the talented participants, who were tasked to collaborate and combine the sounds of Southern Africa, Australia and the UK with their own individualistic styles to create a complete track.
To kick off the week of inspiration and collaboration, we hosted an intimate ‘Masterclass’ Q&A with UK mentor Nadia Rose. Gutted you missed out? Don’t be, we recorded it just for you! Across the four days of the programme, participants will also be invited down to a series of Q&As and specially curated panel talks with the mentors as well as leading industry figures. This includes the likes of Grime MC and Mercury Prize nominee, Novelist; Maribou State’s, Liam Ivory (fresh off the back of an Australian tour & sell out Sydney Opera House show); Australia’s answer to Annie Mac & NLV Records Founder, Nina Las Vegas; Tottenham songbird & Salaam Remi collaborator, Miraa May; and leading UK musician, JGrrey.
